“ A woman, as long as she lives, will remember how she was made to feel at her birth.” Anna Veraal

Why Culture of Birth?

The name speaks to me on a personal level. Moving here from Germany brought many different cultural expectations and challenges. Culture defines who you are.  It includes the knowledge and wisdom of a particular group of people and becomes important when and how you give birth.

Different cultures have different values, beliefs and practices. The cultural background affects a family’s needs and expectations during pregnancy and birth. While focusing on a healthy birth, I would like to acknowledge that a positive experience looks different for every family.

The word “culture” also means to nurture.  What is more fitting than that when we talk about birth?

What is Support?

Support is unconditional.

It is listening…

Not judging, not telling your own story.

Support is not offering advice

It is offering a handkerchief, a touch, a hug… caring.

I am here to help women discover what they are feeling….

Not to make the feelings go away

I am here to help a woman identify her options.

Not to tell her which options to choose.

I am here to discuss steps with a woman…

Not to take the steps for her.

I am here to help a woman discover her own strength…

Not to rescue her and leave her still vulnerable.

I am here to help a woman discover she can help herself…

Not to take that responsibility for her.

I am here to help a woman learn to choose…

Not to make it unnecessary for her to make difficult choices.
